Men's clothing sizes: shirts, jackets and trousers in US, UK and EU
Men's sizes are the closest thing to a measured system: shirt collars and trouser waists are labelled in inches in the US and the UK, and jackets by chest size in inches, so the conversion to centimeters is close to arithmetic. European shirts print the collar in centimeters, and European jacket sizes are roughly half the chest in centimeters (chest 101 cm, EU 50). Only letter sizes are arbitrary, and numbered European trouser sizes vary too much between brands to tabulate.

How to measure
Collar: around the neck where the collar sits, plus one finger of ease. Chest: around the fullest part under the arms, tape level. Waist: where the trousers will sit, which for most men is below the natural waist, so measure at that height rather than at the navel.
The table is a conversion between labels, not a measurement standard: brands differ by up to a full size. When a garment or shoe matters, use the centimeter column and the brand’s own chart. Centimeters to inches, if needed: cm to inches.
Sources
Collar, chest and waist sizes, centimeters, letters and European jacket sizes are copied from the ASOS men’s charts. The EU column for shirts is the collar in centimeters, which is how European shirt makers label it. ASOS gives no European numbering for trousers, so that column is left empty.

Frequently asked questions
EU 41: the ASOS chart lists a 16 in collar as 41 cm, size M. European shirts print the collar in centimeters.
EU 50, for a chest of about 101 cm, according to the ASOS chart: European jacket sizes are roughly half the chest circumference in centimeters.
81 cm. Jeans and casual trousers keep the inch waist worldwide; numbered European trouser sizes differ between brands, so compare the 81 cm with the brand’s chart.
